Tank Ball and David Shaw Light Up the Second Stop of Rolling Stone and Sonesta’s ‘Musicians on Musicians’ Tour in New Orleans

New York, NY, May 9, 2025 — Last night, Thursday, May 8, Rolling Stone took over The Royal Sonesta New Orleans for the second stop in their five-city Musicians on Musicians tour sponsored by Sonesta International Hotels. The event featured Tarriona “Tank” Ball of the progressive R&B band Tank and the Bangas paired with David Shaw of the soulful rock group The Revivalists for an unforgettable evening steeped in the rich musical heritage of their hometown of New Orleans.
From the very first question about the impact New Orleans has on their music – posed by moderator Joseph Hudak, senior music editor at Rolling Stone – Tank and David showed off their innate chemistry both as musicians and friends. Tank talked about being a native of the city and being influenced by the magic of its music history, while David explained why he moved to New Orleans from Ohio in 2007. “I moved here to work in construction, helping rebuild the city after Hurricane Katrina in 2005,” he said. Tank applauded the way David gave back to New Orleans, both with music and his literal hard work.
Much like both artists’ music, the conversation was marked by moments of spontaneity and improvisation. When Tank discussed writing a love song to New Orleans’ famous Café Du Monde, David recalled the role a local dive bar played in his personal and musical growth. Some in the crowd knew the story well and shouted words of encouragement. The conversation wrapped with the musicians sharing inspirational advice to the crowd. Said Tank, “It’s never too late to do this — follow your dreams.”
The music portion was equally as inspiring. David played a stunning solo set of Revivalists songs and teased some new material, while Tank, joined by the Bangas, delivered a mesmerizing only-in-New-Orleans performance, capped by a cover of native son Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.”
The event marked the second chapter in Rolling Stone and Sonesta’s partnership, evolving the beloved Musicians on Musicians series into a nationwide tour visiting some of America’s most musically significant cities. Each stop pairs two influential artists for intimate conversations and performances that showcase the unique cultural soundscapes of their hometowns.
The next stop on the tour is Washington, DC, on June 12 at The Royal Sonesta Washington, DC Capitol Hill, with upcoming events planned for New York City in September and Portland, Oregon in November. The series builds on the success of last year’s sold-out Musicians on Musicians events in New York, Chicago and Miami, continuing to give fans an intimate look into the lives and art of the industry’s brightest stars.
While access to the event is invite-only, Sonesta Travel Pass members can reserve their spot through exclusive packaging that unlocks a world of elevated experiences, from priority access and premium seating to bespoke perks.
